How does a local business that started with so little give back so much? That’s exactly what happened at Simply Southern. “The first day we only made $30,” says company founder Ginger Aydogdu. “But by the weekend we had $300, and I thought we might make it.” Today the company creates local jobs and supports worthy causes around the world, including children’s aid, hurricane relief and much more.
Since its launch in 2011, the Greensboro, North Carolina-based company has grown into a national T-shirt and accessories brand. And as Simply Southern grows, so does its community commitment.
OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP OTHERS
A small business loan from Bank of America was the first of many financial solutions that helped Simply Southern set up shop. “Our involvement started from a relationship with one store,” says Laurie Jamison, senior relationship manager at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. “When the company needed a line of credit and a new building, we helped make it happen. Today, we help manage payables and receivables, finance more buildings, and help Simply Southern expand into new markets.” Jamison adds that community service is central to Simply Southern’s success. “As she has expanded, so has her involvement in good causes. Ginger’s an inspiration, always looking for opportunities to help others, especially children.”
SUPPORTING FUTURE GENERATIONS
Thanks to strategic planning, Simply Southern can continue giving back to communities. “Ginger is a very philanthropic person,” says James Walsh, private client advisor at U.S. Trust, Private Wealth Management. “With many business owners, much of their concentration is on their business. We’re able to provide a strategy to diversify holdings and establish a legacy to help not only this generation, but successive generations as well.”
